Brilliant Color II - Framations, St. Charles, MO
I’m happy to say that three of my images have been selected for the Brilliant Color II exhibition at the Framations gallery in St. Charles, MO. The show is an any-media show focusing on storytelling using bright, strong colors as a focal point. Here are the photos I submitted that were accepted with a brief story on how the photo came to be.
Blue Shoes
At the St. Louis Art Fair in Clayton, MO in 2019 while the kids were finishing their lunch I was looking about for interesting street photo opportunities. As I turned to look the other direction down the street I saw this woman passing me with these awesome blue shoes. Not having the time to actually frame a shot, I fired off a couple of shots with my camera down next to my leg. I love the bright blue of her shoes on a field of fairly muted colors all around.
Pastels
I love stumbling upon shots like this one. I was strolling around downtown Webster Groves after brunch and popped into a little gallery there to check things out. There happened to be a handful of artists working on pastels in the back, and having stopped to watch them work for a bit, I noticed how they had the trays laid out in this beautiful gradation of colors of the rainbow. I was still very new to my camera so I looked for every opportunity to take a shot of something, but I didn’t think about the shot much afterward. This exhibition gave me a little nudge to go back and look at the image, and I’m actually pretty pleased with the results.
COVID-19 Summer Flowers
Intentional Camera Movement shot of flowers at the Missouri Botanical Garden. This captures the somewhat chaotic feel of a summer that’s gone by in a blur of pandemic and social unrest in the country.
